Patrick and I spent a very lovely afternoon with Donegal Beekeeper expert Derek Byrne from Laghey spinning honey from various hives at South Donegal Beekeepers Apiary at Blissberry Farm Mountcharles . This was our first time we’ve been able to witness the magic of honey spinning. It gives you a greater appreciation of these small insects that can do fabulous things with flowers and of course our local beekeepers without them this wouldn’t work.
Both Patrick and I loved taking pinches and chewing up the wax with sweet honey oozing out of it. (THANKS Derek and Peter O’Conner)
What a lucky thing to have access to local honey which you can now buy at LEGHOWNEY COUNTRY MARKET.
BLISSBERRY FARM and LEGHOWNEY COUNTRY MARKET are grateful to all those daring souls out there who risk a few stings here or there to provide local honey and keep those bees busy and healthy around our countryside here in Donegal.
I’m also glad, that now, you can get a glimpse of this process with a ‘LIVE ‘ demo and become a bit more connected with the food you eat out at Leghowney Country Market.
Call out next Saturday to see the QUEEN BEE IN OPERATION and taste the magic of local honey!
